MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT

This Member Code of Conduct has been adopted by Loreto Hockey Club with the purpose of instilling a sense of pride and respect for others, in the way members conduct themselves both on and off the pitch.

Loreto’s ethos is participation and enjoyment by all, promotion of teamwork and club spirit, development of the individual player, commitment to excellence and success through healthy competition within the Club and contesting for honours at all levels.

Success is more than just winning. Whilst we aim to be very competitive, we also strive to maintain a high degree of sportsmanship and team spirit.

It should be remembered that the overriding spirit of the Code is that all members are ambassadors for Loreto Hockey Club and, as such, will not, by word or action, do anything that will harm the reputation of the Club, indeed within the spirit of Loreto Hockey Club actions should, if anything, enhance the reputation of the Club.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF EVERY PLAYER

1 Loreto Hockey Club has undertaken to provide hockey matches, training and coaching facilities for its players. In return the players are expected to attend team coaching on their allocated training day and matches on Saturdays.

2 The team Captain is responsible for the team and its conduct and should be given due respect and support in that role by all team members.

3 The Captain may delegate certain jobs, e.g. safekeeping of balls and 1st Aid Kit, after match refreshments and tidy up. Players are expected to take on and perform these roles willingly.

4 Players must present themselves to their Captain, in correct uniform, and ready to play, at least at the appointed time before the designated start of each match.

5 Players must declare their availability to their Captain before the weekly Selection Meeting and should be prepared to be selected and to play for any of the Club teams.

6 Crying off late or failing to turn up for matches, without reasonable cause, is not acceptable.

CONDUCT OF EVERY PLAYER AND CLUB MEMBER

All Club Members are expected to behave in an appropriate and sportsmanlike manner.

Unacceptable behaviour, including behaviour that results in cards issued during matches, will be subject to review by the Club’s Disciplinary Committee and the member responsible may be subject to sanctions imposed by the Committee.

Members should particularly be aware of the following: -

1 Violent conduct, including misuse of the stick, is not acceptable.

2 Members, including players, team management and supporters, must not use foul or abusive language at any time.

3 Team management are responsible for decisions made during matches and players must respect their decisions and not show dissent.

4 Players must always respect the decision of the umpire and must not show dissent. (The Captain is the only member of the team who may discuss decisions with the umpire.)

SANCTIONS

Any player or club member may report an incident to a member of the Executive Committee or their team captain. Incidents will be monitored at Selection Committee each week and escalated to the Executive Committee as necessary.

The Executive Committee will convene the Disciplinary Committee if required. Sanctions will be imposed on a player or club member as deemed appropriate. Sanctions could include any of the following: verbal or written warning, match, or temporary club membership suspension, or have full club membership withdrawn if deemed appropriate.

Players should be aware that anyone permanently suspended from the field of play by the umpire (red-carded) shall also face the disciplinary sanctions imposed by the Irish Hockey Association.
